I liked the character posters, but this international poster from Bad Taste for “Inglorious Basterds” really rocks. Let’s hope the domestic version is as visual stimulating. Oh, and that the actual movie is good too.
The final “Harry Potter” film hits theaters on July 15th, 2011 making the fantasy-loving teen demographic a wide-open target. Framelight Productions will take advantage of the opportunity with a live-action version of “Tom Trueheart,” the children’s book trilogy written by British author Ian Beck. The original book, “Trueheart,” was published in 2007 and introduced us to a young boy, his older brothers and the Land of Stories. “Tom Trueheart and the Land of Dark Stories” hit shelves last year and Beck is currently working on the third book called “Tom Trueheart and the Land of Myths and Legends.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Framelight may begin to utilize the $60 million budget mid-2010. Framelight’s Robert L. Robinson Jr. is confident the story will appeal to adults even though it’s aimed at younger audiences.
Neil Burger may be the man responsible for bringing “Bride of Frankenstein” back to life. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Biz Blog, Universal and Imagine are in talks with Burger to write and direct the remake. The 1935 original film shows what happens when the monster from 1931’s “Frankenstein” asks Henry Frankenstein to make him a wife. Even though the doctor manages to bring a mate to life, she rejects the monster. About five years ago, when Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini were set to pen the script, the film was to take place in contemporary New York and focus on a dying woman that’s brought back to life, but now that Burger may be on board, the plot is expected to be radically different.
Who gets cast in two high profile films and quits? Sean Penn. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Penn is taking a year off. He’s dropped out of “The Three Stooges” as well as the crime thriller “Cartel.” While the news is a major blow to both productions, “Stooges” is taking the hardest hit. When you’re working with Hollywood heavyweights like Jim Carrey and Benicio del Toro, the time needed to recast the role of Larry could create availability issues putting both Carrey and del Toro’s involvement at risk.
Good cast, good plot, good trailer. The Screen Gems remaking of “The Stepfather” starring Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward, Penn Badgley and Amanda Heard is looking creepy! Badgley stars as a kid that returns home from military school to find out his mother has a boyfriend, David (Walsh). The family’s path to happily-ever-after is destroyed when David’s dark side is revealed. I know “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park III” took away from the glory of the original film, but that was eight years ago. It couldn’t hurt to give the franchise another shot. Well, it doesn’t matter what I think because according to io9, producer Frank Marshall said the chances of a fourth film happening are slim to none. To make matters worse, Marshall confirmed work is still being done to get a new “The Neverending Story” film up and running.
Can Jason Sudeikis make the leap from TV to the big screen? We’ll find out soon because he’s set to join Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler in “Bounty Hunter.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy is about a bounty hunter (Butler) assigned to track down his ex-wife (Aniston) who’s skipped out on bail. Sudeikis will play a guy who mistakenly thinks he’s the woman’s boyfriend and follows her after she goes on the run.
Word on the street is that “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” isn't doing too hot. There have been numerous reports of dismal screen tests and rumors that Paramount isn’t happy with the final product. But, according to Cinematical, some people have high hopes for the film. The site also posted this character poster of Marlon Wayan’s Ripcord which is an improvement from the last good vs. evil image.
I don’t normally find myself saying this about a musical, but I can’t wait for “Fame” to hit theaters on September 25th. The teaser trailer showed the film had some potential and now the full version proves it. The music sounds great, the dancing is enthralling and the script even seems to have some substance.
