GOODBYE FROM REEL TALK
Posted by Perri Nemiroff on 06/26/09 at 04:00 PM

Unfortunately the time has come for us to say goodbye. On behalf of everyone at Reel Talk, I’d like to thank all of you for tuning in every week to hear Alison and Jeffrey’s thoughts on the newest releases and for visiting our website to get the latest in movie news. It has honestly been our pleasure and we’ve enjoyed every moment of this great opportunity.

Keep enjoying the movies.

What is wrong with NBC. Otis Livingston, Rob Morrison, Len Berman, and now Jeffrey Lyons/Reel Talk all gone.

This is beyond understanding. NBC management, you are destroying your NY broadcasting team.

STOP!

I will miss Jeffrey Lyons a great deal. Hope to find him on another local news station soon

To be honest, I only recently started watching, and only did so to catch the interviews - what I found to be the only defining feature of your show.

Aside from that, you're reviewing the exact same movies as your handicapped son and his lobotomized buddy of the same name. I can't find a reason for two shows to do that, frankly.

Anyway, I hope for more movie related TV shows, so you should move over to Reelz Channel, where they more or less appreciate shows like ReelTalk. It's in their name!

This is a really bad mistake. Why would NBC cancel Reel Talk. It's a highly respected show that us movies lovers really enjoyed.

NBC has lost their sense of taste and their obligation towards audience. They are not doing their jobs of informing or educating people with real journalists or experts as it should be done in a world of millions of bloggers. Love the Reel Talk show, Jeffrey and Allison are such great professionals.

Reel Talk was one of the few shows of its kind that put QUALITY, THOUGHTFULLNESS and RESPECT for the artistry and history of filmmaking first. To whom is NBC pandering? Or by what bogus measure was this show assessed as anything but an excellent production? This is too often the fate of truly excellent programming. It can only be hoped that we will continue to hear from Jeffrey and especially from Alison again soon. If there is a protest to sign to bring the show back, please consider this to be me signing it. My Saturday mornings will never be the same.

Just found out! So sorry, and wondering why there was/is no explanation.

You guys have saved me much money and time over the past few years. (It was also good to finally see a film later - free - and mentally thank you for steering me in the other direction.)

Best of luck!

I am very disappointed and will miss Jeffrey,Alison and Reel Talk. I enjoyed it faithfully every week. I hope to see Alison Bailes' and Jeffrey Lyons' reviews in some venue--perhaps as a segment on the endless morning shows who do so much filler we can all do without--like if I cared about Jon & Kate, I would watch that stupid show--I don't want to see it on the "news"! Who,if anyone, is going to be doing movie reviews on NBC? Why is Reel Talk ending? All the best to Alison and Jeffrey.

I'm beyond disappointed. I've come to trust Jeffrey and Alison's wit and candor in both reviewing and interviewing. I will really miss this show. NBC, there's a reason you're low in the ratings, and it's because you keep dumping shows with real value to your viewers. I hope we can find Reel Talk, Jeffrey, and Alison on another channel soon. Shame, shame, shame.

Ah man! This is upsetting! I love Jeffrey and Alison's reviews, and visiting this site every day!
Thanks everybody involved with Reel Talk for your fine work.

We'll meet again. Don't know where. Don't know when.

Posted by: William Bragg | June 27, 2009 09:58 PM

Dear Beautiful and Lovely Princess Alison, Dashing Sir Jeffrey, and Charming Reel Talk Staff,

Sorry I haven't written earlier, but I just got back from Royal Ascot in England, where "Strike the Tiger" made history when he became the first American-trained horse ever to win a race at Royal Ascot!

But upon my return, I was very disappointed and very disheartened to learn that Reel Talk will not be available for TV viewing on NBC anymore. Reel Talk was one of the best Film Critic shows ever, and I enjoyed it immensely. I learned a lot and enjoyed Alison's and Jeffrey's extensive knowledge of film, their discussions, keen insights, and critical reviews. Their up close interviews of current stars were most interesting as well. And their great wit and sense of humor was always fun to watch, too. And talk about Eye Candy !

I hope that another network will pick up your excellent high quality show as soon as possible. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

With Warmest Regards and Best Wishes, and the Best of Good Luck to all of you, Dashing Sir Jeffrey, Charming Reel Talk Staff, and especially Beautiful and Lovely Princess Alison,

And I hope to see you all on another network, or in a full length feature film, very soon,

And since today is my Birthday 6/28/09, I hope all my Birthday Good Luck rubs off on all of you, too!
As well as all the Good Luck from "Strike the Tiger's" Horseshoe!

Fondly,
PrincePeterofPomona

I recently got interested in your show and I watched weekly. It's a shame this great review show is comming to an end. I hope all the video on your web site can be made available after the web site closes. There are some great interviews and reviews. Maybe you could give the content to The Internet Archive for posterities sake.
Thank you,

John Slade

Ah man, oh well all good things have to come to an end, but I will miss jeffery and allison's reviews.

Posted by: scott huston | June 28, 2009 08:04 AM

Nooooooooo!!!!

I came to really look forward and trust Alison's reviews. She's classy, with great taste, and a real sense for what works and doesn't work in a film. The English perspective is always welcome, and she is always clear and concise about what she liked or didn't like specifically. Too many critics bring their vast knowledge of film history to their views on newer movies, which can be annoying because I always get this pretentious feeling from them. (*Lyons* cough*) Alison always looked at a picture through it's own merits, and was totally fair in judgment. In many cases, she's a casual movie-goer just like one of us, so it's nice to hear her enjoy something that maybe fancy journalists "aren't supposed to like." Besides, you just don't see enough female critics out there these days.

Jeffrey, you've been doing this a long time, but some of your recommendations lately..I dunno...
lol

I'll miss you Ms. Bailes! Hope you continue to review films and I hope to hear from them soon! Keep up with the classy!

Posted by: Rob Grizzly | June 28, 2009 12:14 PM

Too bad the show was taken off the air. Hope another channel picks up the series. You should go to Reelz Channel. Your reviews will be missed. Hope to see the both of you soon in another format.

I agree w/ what most people are saying of how and why this is idea a bad idea from NBC. There are not that many shows on major networks where you can hear legitimate movie critics give their opinions and insight on the latest movie releases in theaters and on DVD. These are shows that inform and enlighten our movie experiences and I find the cancellation of Reel Talk will be a disappointment to most movie goer fans. I would like to say to please bring it back but there will be no point since it was already announced. I would just like to recommend to NBC to please debut a new movie critic show where we can keep informed on upcoming films like what Reel Talk did. THANK YOU

I was caught completely by surprise to find that this week was the last episode of this outstanding show. I will miss Jeffrey and Alison every week as they disagree without being disagreeable. I could only wish that WNBC canceled "Mike'd Up" instead!

Posted by: Kevin McDermott | June 29, 2009 02:28 PM

Well, Jeffrey and Alison, it appears NBC can't afford a class act anymore...please, find a syndicator who has the sense to give you the same time slot each week and pick up where you left off...we'll be saving seats for ya'....

I haven't posted any comments here before, which I now regret. I hope this message reaches many who worked on the ReelTalk staff, including Jeffrey and Alison.

ReelTalk has become over the last year the first movie review show that I looked forward to watching. I am not a wordsmith, so I don't think I can praise the show to do it justice. However, it was refreshing to see people like Jeffrey and Alison who have a really thoughtful appreciation for many different parts of the film industry. Their chemistry was great, and I even loved it when they disagreed. Something about the way they talked was totally relatable to me, even though I'm just a young guy from Florida. Your interviews were outstanding, too.

I think ReelTalk was an inevitable casualty of crappy timeslots and poor marketing and maybe an age when movie review shows aren't as appreciated as they once were. It is a shame, because this show was a gem. I hope everyone involved moves on to great things, and I want everyone to know that there were people who appreciated what you did.

NBC HAS NO CLASS.EXCEPT FOR REEL TALK, I NEVER NOT WATCH ANY OF THEIR SHOWS. THE TEAM THAT CUT OFF JEFFREY & ALLISON SHOULD BE FIRED.

I am sad that Reeltalk has been cancelled by NBCNewYork. It was a great show for the intellectual movie lover. I will miss Jeffrey Lyons and Allison Bailes very much. Hope seeing you in a another network or cable channel. You both deserve it.

Posted by: Anthony Giannilivigni | July 1, 2009 10:41 AM

We'll always have Paris (Hilton)

Not so for quality shows.

Posted by: William Bragg | July 2, 2009 09:52 PM

Aren't you guys going to move the show to some other channel? Or at least something similar...

Posted by: Odette Amour | July 3, 2009 06:24 AM

I totally agree with the above... Saturday morning just isn't the same without Jeffrey and Alison to kick start the day. (Usually, I'm writing... but since I've finished all my reviews/work for the movies out on Friday, it's nice to hear another opinion as I start thinking about next week.)

I can't believe NBC cancelled this but kept Open House NYC (or whatever that show is called)... does anyone who can afford those 5 million condos even watch television? I figure they pay someone to watch for them... moviegoers on the other hand need a show like Reel Talk.

Posted by: Edward Douglas | July 4, 2009 10:26 AM

All good things come to an end unfortunately! Thanks for everything!

Posted by: Astrid Celibataire Endurci | July 7, 2009 02:11 PM

I'm gonna miss watching you guys on sat morning. It was something i look forward on sat morning!

Posted by: Anonymous | July 8, 2009 04:15 PM

Big mistake, NBC--this is a great show that has a loyal following.

Is there any chance you'll reconsider and pick the show up again??

Also, one person already commented on the station retaining the Open House NYC featuring multi-million condos--is there really a market for that type of show in this economy??

Movies, on the other hand, are a relatively affordable pleasure and discerning fans tune into a show like "Reel Talk"to find out what their favorite critics think.

NBC Bailes Out!

So Sad.

Posted by: William Bragg | July 11, 2009 01:35 PM

NBC. No Room for a Review.

Posted by: William Bragg | July 13, 2009 08:51 PM

Reel Talk has been one of our favorite shows on TV. We relied on Jeffrey & Alison's comments every week. I was happy that there were people who felt about films with the same passion I do. We looked forward to your insights and comments to help us make decisions on which films to go see. And the show was very entertaining. We feel for you; it's just another dumb thing that someone at NBC did. We loved this show; wished you were on an hour. What are your plans now? Best Wishes, Glenn Veiga

Posted by: Glenn & Georgia Veiga | July 25, 2009 11:21 AM

WHAT!!!!!! The show is CANCELED!!!? I've been searching the television guides for weeks wondering where the show was...and now I hear this! Another MOVIE CRITIC show has been essential in my movie viewing habits. Incite from other persons not affiliated with ATTHEMOVIES has been a helpful partner to my movie viewing habits. And now all I have left is that younger pathetic LYONS character that has self-admitted in his smug manner that he doesn't have the STOMACH FOR HORROR movies!!! Your in the WRONG BUSINESS you charlatan...no offense Daddy Lyons if you are reading this. But obviously the TASTE GENE doesn't trickle down to the offspring.
And even though I didn't agree on just about all the movies that Allison critiqued, she was just a PLEASURE to look at.
Hey, how about a WEB SHOW? I'm sure many of us will watch...thanks for all the subjective views.

Posted by: JOHN L. | August 2, 2009 08:30 AM

I can't believe they cancelled Reel Talk. That was the only program I was watching on NBC. Will miss Alison and Jeffrey.
