It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Katie Holmes do a horror flick. Was “Disturbing Behavior” even scary enough to be considered a horror film? Anyway, Holmes has attached herself to some creepy work with potential, Guillermo del Toro’s “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.” Del Toro penned the script with Matthew Robbins, which is based on the 1973 ABC TV movie about a girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend, but soon learns they aren’t the only ones living in the house. Directing duties have been given to del Toro’s protégé, Troy Nixey.

I’ve got some release date changes that aren’t going to make you happy. Things were looking up for “Green Lantern” when news flooded the Internet that Bradley Cooper was likely to star as Hal Jordon, but according to Slash Film, Warner Bros. still had to push back the release date from December 17th, 2010 to June 17th, 2011. The studio was also forced to push back Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch” from October 8th, 2010 to March 25th, 2011 due to casting changes.

HaroldAndKumar.jpg

Are you ready to celebrate Christmas Harold and Kumar style? It was obvious that Warner Bros. would look to make a third film after “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” became a classic and “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay” hit it big at the box office. Sure enough, Slash Film reports that the studio will bring back Kal Penn and John Cho for “A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas” to be released on November 5th, 2010. I guess President Obama will be giving Penn some time off to film another pot-driven misadventure. The article also mentions Warner Bros’ plans to release Happy Feet 2 in 3D” on November 18th, 2011.

Dwayne Johnson could be getting back into the more serious action pics. According to Variety, Johnson is in final negotiations to star in CBS Films’ action dram “Faster.” This is no kiddie flick; Johnson’s character would be an ex-con seeking revenge for the death of his brother. If all goes to plan, lensing will begin in August.

“Billy Smoke” has its leading man and now it’s nabbed a director. Almost a year ago it was announced that Matthew Fox was set to play the title character, a hitman who’s nearly killed in a job-gone-wrong. After the incident he comes to the realization that the only way he’ll ever find redemption is to rid the world of all assassins. Now, The Hollywood Reporter says Warner Bros. has set Jeffrey Nachmanoff to write and direct the film, which is based on the comic book series by B. Clay Moore being published sometime this year. Nachmanoff’s work includes co-writing “The Day After Tomorrow” and directing “Traitor.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Code Entertainment has just picked up an impressive team of leading actors. Ray Stevenson, Christopher Walken and Val Kilmer will star in “The Irishman,” based on the true story of Danny Greene. Greene was the member of the Mob in Cleveland responsible for inciting a turf war that extended throughout the country. Stevenson will play Greene; Walken will play a loan shark named Shondor Birns and Kilmer a police detective who befriends Greene.

Speaking of impressive trios, Jacob Estes has gotten one as well. Variety reports that Estes has picked up James McAvoy, Elizabeth Banks and Laura Linney to star in his black comedy “The Details.” Estes wrote the script and will direct the flick about a couple (McAvoy and Banks) whose backyard is being taken over by raccoons. You’d think the obvious solution would be to call an exterminator, but the couple can’t seem to come to an agreement on their plan of action, which leads to a series of hilarious calamities.

MimranSchur.jpg

Mimran Schur Pictures is looking to make its first film a big one. According to Variety, Robert De Niro and Edward Norton have signed on to star in the psychological thriller “Stone.” John Curran will direct the film about a correctional officer (De Niro) seduced by the wife of an arsonist up for parole (Norton).

“Piranha 3-D” is getting more impressive by the minute. Yesterday it was announced that “Gossip Girl” Jessica Szohr signed on to be eaten alive and now EW.com reports that Jerry O’Connell has done the same. They’ll join Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss and Adam Scott in the Weinstein Company’s reboot of the 1978 original about prehistoric man-eating fish that attack an unsuspecting group of people.

Peter Jackson read my mind. Here’s the trailer for “District 9” subtitled and without facial blur. According to Ropes of Silicon, now you can see what George – yes, that’s what the alien’s name is – actually looks like and discover the situation he’s going through.
