Mickey Rourke can rest easy because he’s finally landed his role as the Russian villain in “Iron Man 2.” A few weeks back Rourke visited the Reel Talk set where he expressed his hopes to be a part of the “Iron Man” sequel. Not only did Rourke’s wish come true but he’ll be joined by Scarlett Johansson. This news comes from Deadline Hollywood, which also reports that Johansson will be taking the role abandoned by Emily Blunt of Black Widow. Read more about Rourke’s awesome casting deal here and Johansson’s fairly terrible arrangement here.

I guess Joe Wright has a thing for England. He’s directed “Atonement” and “Pride & Prejudice” and now he’ll move on to an adaptation of the Alex von Tunzelman novel “Indian Summer.” The book is about a British Lord and his wife who travel to India to oversee the final days of Britain’s colonial rule in 1947. Wright told Variety, “After making 'The Soloist' in L.A., I was looking for something that was primarily about the British experience.” Well, that’s exactly what he got. Lensing is set to begin April 24th, which happens to be the opening day of “The Soloist.”
Ira Glass is back for more Hollywood action. The host of NPR’s “This American Life” made his big screen debut producing “Unaccompanied Minors,” which was based on material from his show, back in 2006. His newest project is based on the Arthur Phillips short story that aired on his show last summer called “Wenceslas Square.” It’s about two spies who fall in love while on separate missions. According to Variety, Glass will produce this Endgame Entertainment film alongside Alissa Shipp, his “This American Life” co-worker and James D. Stern of Endgame.
There’s more to actor Jay Baruchel than a silly secondary comedy actor. He has gone from “Knocked Up” to “Fanboys” to “Tropic Thunder” and to the upcoming film “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” but now he’ll get the chance to develop his own material thanks to Universal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baruchel has been given the opportunity to show his original character, Johnny Klutz, to the world. The film is being produced by Red Hour Productions, written by Rob McKittrick of “Waiting…” and will star none other than Baruchel in the lead role of a dorky guy you can’t help but to adore.
We know Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams and Jackie Earle Haley star in Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” and that the film is about a hunt for a killer who has escaped to a remote island, but that’s about it. Now, thanks to artist Karl Shelfelman, we know a little bit more; there’s a lighthouse involved. Shelfelman posted storyboards on his website showing the character Teddy, which is probably referring to U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels played by DiCaprio, running towards a lighthouse. Get a closer look at all of the storyboards here.
Three films, three different directors. It’s finally official; Juan Antonio Bayona will direct the third installment of the “Twilight” series, “Eclipse.” Bayona is responsible for directing the horror-thriller “The Orphanage” as well as the upcoming thriller “Hater.” Variety reports that “Eclipse” is aiming for a June 30th, 2010 release.
May 2010 is looking like one heck of a month for movies. “Iron Man 2,” “Shrek the Fourth” and “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” are all heading towards 05/10 releases and now, so will Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood.” According to Coming Soon, the film will hit theaters May 14th, 2010. “Iron Man 2” will be released on the 7th, “Shrek” the 21st and “Prince of Persia” on the 28th.
Remember Charisma Carpenter from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer?” She played Cordelia Chase if that helps. Anyway, she’ll be adding a dose of sexual appeal to the already muscled up film “The Expendables.” She’ll join Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren in the film about a team of mercenaries sent to overthrow a South American dictator. Ropes of Silicon says Carpenter will play Statham’s character’s girlfriend.
Danny DeVito is going crazy as Crazy Eddie. DeVito will star in the film based on the consumer electronics king sent to jail for fraud. Peter Steinfeld of “21” is writing the script and both he and DeVito will produce the film alongside Isaac Chera and Elliott Azrak. Both Chera and Azrak grew up in Brooklyn around the corner from Antar’s first store. That one store grew into a chain of 43 that drew costumers from the unforgettable TV ads dubbing their prices “Insaaaaane!” The fraud issue came about when Antar skimmed money and falsified inventory when he took his company public and it boomed on Wall Street. Take a look at one of Crazy Eddie’s commercials here.
