mamma mia on set.jpgIn reviewing “Mamma Mia!” on this week’s show, I didn’t have time to mention the sound design, which I found to be extremely distracting in its sterility. Not only were the songs obviously pre-recorded…and the actors lip-synching but all of the dialogue sounded looped. This had the effect of putting the viewer at a remove from the action. So, even though the scenery appeared picture-postcard perfect…I never felt like I was on the Greek island with the characters.

Alison,
I sent this in an email to the editors, but would like to mention it here:

You made some great points about the MPAA rating system (the film "This Film is Not Yet Rated" explains why they are completely ridiculous).

I would suggest using www.kids-in-mind.com as a great resource for determining whether a film is right for your children or not. Check it out. (it's not my website or anything...I just use it).

Thanks and keep up the good work. I have discovered many a gem of a small film by watching you guys.
