In reviewing “Mamma Mia!” on this week’s show, I didn’t have time to mention the sound design, which I found to be extremely distracting in its sterility. Not only were the songs obviously pre-recorded…and the actors lip-synching but all of the dialogue sounded looped. This had the effect of putting the viewer at a remove from the action. So, even though the scenery appeared picture-postcard perfect…I never felt like I was on the Greek island with the characters.
