And the Oscar just may go to...
Posted by Jeffrey Lyons on 07/17/08 at 03:03 PM

jokerheath.jpgThe talk of an Oscar nomination to the late Heath Ledger isn't just hype. His performance ranks right up there with Sir Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter in "Silence of the Lambs" and Anthony Perkins' Norman Bates in "Psycho." Ledger's costars have been answering questions about him in every interview, rather than hyping their own performances, as well they should.

lecter0103.jpgIt will add to the mystique of this movie, sure to be one of the biggest hits of the summer. There have been 6am screenings already sold out--can you imagine seeing ANY movie at that hour?--and tremendous buzz about the Imax version. We have Christian Bale and Sir Michael Caine on our show this week. And Bale will discuss talk of another sequel and his upcoming movies as well. Hope you tune in.

People were saying the same thing about Downey Jr in Iron Man just a couple of months ago. Now he's yesterday's news.

This happens every summer. People get carried away in the hype, but by December, the focus will have shifted. A superhero movie nominated for an acting Oscar? If only the Academy could be so cool...
