Top Five Most Memorable Movie Psychopaths
Posted by Alison Bailes on 11/29/07 at 02:57 PM

Anton Chigurh1. Anton Chigurh (“No Country For Old Men”)
His hair style alone is chilling. But it’s Javier Bardem’s commitment to the ice-cold killer that is most impressive, making him terrifying and oddly engaging at the same time. Also, his weapon of choice is most inventive…a sort of pneumatic cattle-killing device that is mercifully quick and (I imagine) painless.

2. Don Logan ("Sexy Beast")
Sir Ben Kingsley shows how a shaved head can be menacing with his portrait of a sociopath in “Sexy Beast”. His insistence on not taking no for an answer is at once funny and terrifying.

3. Hannibal Lector ("Silence of The Lambs")
What more can be said about a man who can be so chilling even when behind bars? Proof that an intelligent mind is the most frightening thing.

4.Dennis Hopper (“Blue Velvet”)
David Lynch’s films have their share of oddballs but Hopper’s oxygen-huffing, rapist freak is indelibly marked in my head.

5. Cruella de Vil ("101 Dalmatians"). Someone who wants to kill puppies! The worst of the lot!

What do you think? What are your top most memorable movie psychopaths?

6. Derek Vinyard (American History X). What's more disturbing about Edward Norton's performance? The fact that his neo-nazi has some convincing arguments, or the fact that unlike most movie psychopaths, people like him are real...

7. John Doe (Se7en). He really only gets one long scene at the finale of the film, but Kevin Spacey earns his spectacular ending.

8. Norman Bates (Psycho). Anthony Perkins does something remarkable with horror in the 60's: He makes people second-guess the folks around them.

9. Mr. Blonde (Resevior Dogs). Never be left alone in a room with Michael Madsen unsupervised!

10. Henry Evans (The Good Son). Macaulay Culkin gave to finger to all his fans by playing this deeply sick little boy!

Kurt Russel from Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof. his sociopathic role has to be one of the most memorable in film.
